He's official!!

It's official -- "Shimeles Tegene Ayalew" is now "Elliot Shimeles Tegene Briola", and he has been readopted here in Texas!  He refused to smile for the group photo (would you after 2 hours of complete boredom??), but after some tickling in Daddy's arms, the real Eli showed his personality once again...

Imagine

Every night, each of my boys get to pick a song.  I then crawl into bed with each one of them and sing "their" song to them.  It's sort of my special time with each of them, and we all really enjoy it.  They even like my singing!

Ian usually wants "Fireflies" by Faith Hill, or "Moonshadow" by Cat Stevens.  When he's feeling particularly goofy, he wants me to sing him "Happy Birthday", which I think is hilarious, and so does he.

Kai wants "Godspeed" by the Dixie Chicks, "Trouble Me" by 10,000 Maniacs, or "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz.  All good choices.

However, it is Eli's choice of song that is really amazing.  Every night, without fail, he wants me to sing "Imagine" by John Lennon.  When I sing that song, especially to him, I can rarely get through it without tearing up.  Just think about these lyrics, and that I'm singing them to a boy who used to be an orphan in Africa.  A boy who had nothing.  A boy who has been hungry.  Really hungry.  A boy who had a selfless mother.  A mother who had nothing but her son left in her life, but gave him up so that he might have the life she dreamed and and wished for him.  A boy who once dreamed of the family that he lost and another family he might gain.  Got tissues?

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too

Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You, you may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will live as one

Life with boys

I love being a mom of boys.  I'm sure girls are great, and my mother would probably be ever-so-happy if we someday decided to add a girl to the mix, but right now, I'm loving the testosterone level in my house.  Here are just some of their antics....

They had so much fun on this death trap at the park!  The thing on the bottom spins, much like a log in the water.  I think that the people who design playground equipment get a kick-back from local emergency rooms.  That's the only explanation I can come up with.

Apparently, danger is what makes it fun!

It's a swingin' good time!

Eli was so proud of himself!

This is one of my all-time favorite photos of Ian.  Captures his mischievous little personality just perfectly!  And I love his giant, pointy vampire teeth!

And this is just plain sweet!  Eli has started calling Ian his "baby".  He'll say, "C'mon baby -- let's snuggle."  Then he wants to lay down with Ian and stroke his face and hair.  Everybody now....  Awwww!
